Providing a Choice for the Voters of Louisiana’s 6th District
For Immediate Release
Baton Rouge – Richard Torregano, Independent Candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District, marked Election Day 2012 by reminding voters that they have a choice in the race.
“The three main principles of my campaign have been fairness, innovation, and real reform,” said Torregano. “We need all three for improvement to happen, and we need independent representatives and a plan to make this happen, for change to be possible.”
Torregano cited his key priorities:
Having the federal government to float Federal bonds for non-amortized home mortgage loans with simple interest and money made on loans – to fund deficits in Medicare and Social Security.
Using Federal bonds again to fund Co-Operatives Business Organizations – employee owned - to bring back jobs that have been outsourced or lost overseas and using the interest for funding Medicare and Social Security deficits – for this to work there must be Fair Trade not Free Trade.
Redirecting the Federal Gasoline Excise Tax from the consumer to gasoline manufacturing companies to fund Louisiana Coastal Restoration - one cent would provide 1.4 billion dollars a year.
Creating a new health program based on a single payer plan for all legal citizens, based on age and income and run by a third party independent entity - no health insurance companies needed.
Installing a Fair and Flat Income Tax (8 to 12%) - no one below poverty level to pay income tax and Corporate business tax tied to Congressional spending.
“These are innovative ideas,” said Torregano, “but they require real reform to happen. That’s why I also support reinstatement of the Glass-Steagal Act to prevent another financial meltdown of the kind that so damaged the Middle Class in 2008.”

Torregano also pointed out the importance of fairness as a guiding principle:
“My priority is supporting and preserving the American Middle Class. The incumbent, Dr. Bill Cassidy, supports an agenda I call ‘Austerity for the Middle Class’: cutting the programs that working Americans depend on (or turning them into voucher programs), while giving large new tax breaks to the higher incomes. He also signed Grover Norquist’s pledge against any new tax revenues.
“This kind of policy isn’t fair, and it’s not responsible,” said Torregano. “It won’t allow us to protect the Middle Class, or to carry out specific goals like coastal restoration. My proposals will help us reach those goals.”
